1940 all Chinese were barred from Jamaica except diplomats, tourists and students with permits. Three major anti-Chinese riots in Jamaica; 1918, 1936, 1965. Many Chinese-Jamaicans left the island during the 1970s over fear of communism and insecurity as a vulnerable minority.
