Portugal started transatlantic slavery (Fuck off, if you thought about Africans selling their own *, did the Chinese also sell their own? Yep, the Chinese were also sold as slaves by the Europeans) that propelled the rise of Europe. 

Did you ever ask why Portugal profited much less than the British, The Dutch and the rest of Europe?
