Tanzanian student Samson Mkapa attends one of the prestigious agricultural research institutions in Hainan Province in China, studying sisal. About 60 years ago, Tanzania produced over 200,000 tonnes, but the figure currently stands at below 15,000 tonnes annually. Mkapa wants to apply efficient cultivation methods, the pest and disease control techniques used in China’s sisal industry in Tanzania.
