Where are all the black fiddlers? by The Fiddle Channel

Lisbon, last Century.

Radio X FM was instrumental in my awakening to Jazz / Improvisation, Blues, "Avant Rock", Noise / Experimental, and many other types of music.
Sadly what remains prominently in the back of my mind is their worst as a Radio station — their Racist presenter.
As with anyone I see as unworthy, her name evades me, always ignored it, couldn't hear it.
Possibly the Germans have a name for it 😂.

Anyway.
Her racist, ignorant views of Africans are believed true by many Africans, people with African ancestry.

I remember a racist old lady who took offense for reading on this blog, that Rock and Roll were created by Afro-American musicians.
I never told her I had a blog.

The Brotherhood of the Crass, through a Brazilian stooge and Vigiexpert's racists also rained on the issue of Rock'N'Roll origen.

Stupid People!

Now! Onto the ART!

The Fiddle Channel:
Where are all the black fiddlers in American old time music? In this mini documentary I look at evidence that at one time black fiddle and banjo players were at least as numerous as whites. I explain the roots of fiddle and banjo playing in Africa, the role played by slave musicians on the plantations, the significance of minstrel shows, and the deliberate exclusion of African Americans from early Hillbilly recordings. I mention the few black old time musicians to be recorded in a non commercial setting. I then look at the folk revival of the mid to late 20th Century, and the reasons why so few blacks were involved. Finally I talk about the Carolina Chocolate Drops, and recent efforts to address the issue. Among the sources for my research was the excellent paper by Linda L Henry- ""Some Real American Music" John Lusk and His Rural Black String Band.
