However, a unified Korea would essentially have no external threat.
Hence the Korean people would eventually demand the departure of the American forces from their land.
This is unacceptable to the U.S. as it means the further diminishing of its global hegemony.

Therefore it is in China’s interest for Korea to be reunified.
On the other hand, it is in U.S. interest for North and South Korea to remain divided so it will continue to have the pretext of “protecting SK from NK”.
