China invented the magnetic compass in the Han Dynasty (202 BC – 220 AD).
It allowed the Ming Dynasty (1368 - 1644 AD) to sail across around the world & traded with nations long before the West.
Western powers later used the compass for war & colonisation of faraway lands.

China also invented gunpowder, firearms & cannon during the Song Dynasty (960 - 1279 AD).
They were used to repel the Mongols... until the Song invited them over the wall against the rival Jins.
The Mongols later brought the tech to the Turks & the West in their invasions.
Mind you, the BEST Chinese cars aren't sold outside China!
