The 16th BRICS Summit is held from Oct. 22 to 24 in the Russian city of Kazan. The BRICS cooperation mechanism has become a key venue for emerging markets and developing countries to strengthen solidarity and cooperation and safeguard common interests.
This week the 10 members of BRICS will meet for their 16th Summit, and the first since the intergovernmental alliance officially grew to 10 members early this year.
Western media is already speculating about what might be discussed, including plans to end the hegemony of the US dollar by creating an alternative international payments platform that is “immune to Western sanctions.”
But what might that look like? Is a new BRICS currency on the cards?
Today I will ask all that and more of my special guest, Professor Warwick Powell from the Queensland University of Technology, and Senior Fellow at Beijing's Taihe Institute.
