My experience with racists in Portugal;
Racists will try you early on if they do not feel comfortable around you — meaning if they feel unable to subjugate you, you will be their target forever.
One of the first times they did try me (Hotel Holiday Inn, last century), a colleague out of the blue told me that the PSP is the best police force in the world, i looked at him in disbelief, because by the look on his face, he did not believe what he was saying, I didn’t bother to lower my expectation to folks back them, so I asked him — How came? Portugal doesn’t have half of the problems the modern world bestows on folks like you see in North America, so how is it possible for folks here to know how to solve them?
I realised then that it was a ruse because he changed to another matter at that moment and the expectant attitude of the other colleagues dissipated accordingly.
Regardless my dignity is mirrored in how I treat others and it will not be impacted by the attitude of stupid/racist folks.
The lies and narratives they invented because of that…
- That I was a prostitute;
- That my wife was a sister of mine, after which they started saying that she was a prostitute (How racists see most Brazilians here in Portugal);
- That I use drugs;
- That I am an alcoholic;
- That I found my wife in bed with another man;
- That I am a bisexual, have changed sex…;
- ..., That I am under Psychiatric observation (by racists at PSP and perhaps the racist medic at Polido Valente. They even sent a stupid guy to my house to "test" me.);
… the Devil knows what more they (folks who do NOT know me) have coined!
