The first batch of battery-powered locomotives from China's CRRC Dalian in Liaoning Province are ready for operation, company officials said recently.
The 1000-kilowatt battery units will be used in steel enterprises, replacing outdated diesel locomotives, which officials say marks a significant step in the country's efforts to embrace green industrial practices.
The locomotives are equipped with high-capacity lithium iron phosphate batteries and feature advanced liquid-cooled fast-charging technology that can support a full charge in just 70 minutes.
They also have an unmanned intelligent transport mode that can simulate the operating habits of experienced drivers, enabling fully autonomous transportation.
