Poet Susan Howe and musician/composer David Grubbs perform their fourth collaboration, "WOODSLIPPERCOUNTERCLATTER", recorded live at ISSUE Project Room on October 25, 2013 as part of ISSUE's anniversary series Ten Years Alive on the Infinite Plain.

Author of more than a dozen books of poetry and three of literary criticism, Susan Howe held the Samuel P. Capen Chair in Poetry and the Humanities at the State University New York at Buffalo until her retirement in 2007. Her recent collection of poems, "That This" (New Directions), received the 2011 Bollingen Prize. David Grubbs has released twelve solo albums and is the author of "Records Ruin the Landscape: John Cage, The Sixties, and Sound Recording" (Duke University Press). Grubbs was a member of the groups Gastr del Sol, Bastro, and Squirrel Bait, and he has performed with the Red Krayola, Will Oldham, Tony Conrad, Pauline Oliveros, and Loren Connors, among many others.

Grubbs and Howe were brought together when the Fondation Cartier in Paris proposed a collaborative performance in 2003. Grubbs had been a dedicated reader of Howe’s for more than a decade, and the opportunity to work with Howe’s poetry and her voice immediately intrigued. The pair has since created four full-length works that they have presented widely in the US and Europe. Four CD releases have appeared on Drag City’s Blue Chopsticks imprint, and their long out-of-print 2004 first album, "Thiefth", was released for the first time on LP by ISSUE Project Room’s Distributed Objects label in September 2015.

ISSUE presents Nilssen-Love's 11-piece big band Large Unit at Brooklyn's First Unitarian Church on June 13th, 2015.

Norwegian drummer Paal Nilssen-Love has established himself on the international scene as a powerful drummer with high energy and creativity. In 2002 he was "Artist in Residence" at Molde International Jazz Festival, a title Chick Corea and Pat Metheny held in previous years. After 7 days and 9 concerts at the festival, Down Beat stated, "His week at Molde proved a revelation: Nilssen-Love is one of the most innovative, dynamic and versatile drummers in jazz." Among many groups and ensembles Nilssen-Love performs with Mats Gustafsson and Ingebrigt Håker Flaten in the trio The Thing, with the Scandinavian free jazz supergroup Atomic, and with Peter Brötzmann’s Chicago Tentet.

Brooklyn-based guitarist Loren Connors was born in New Haven, Connecticut in 1949. Best known as a composer and improviser, Connors has issued over 50 guitar records on his own imprints (Daggett, St. Joan, Black Label) since the late 1970s and over two dozen on other labels across the globe. He has recorded under the names Guitar Roberts, Loren Mattei, Loren MazzaCane Connors and other variations. Connors' singular adaptation of the blues is a distinct personal vision combining the Delta bottleneck sound and the ancestral blues voice (appearing as distortion, baying hounds or multi-tracked guitar), with hauntingly unexpected sounds. Outside of Connors' three decades of solo work, he has collaborated with Suzanne Langille, Jim O'Rourke, Darin Gray, Alan Licht, Christina Carter, Keiji Haino, San Agustin, Jandek and many others, as well as leading the group Haunted House.

Kim Gordon has been an undeniable force of independent music for three decades. In addition to serving as founding member, vocalist, instrumentalist, and songwriter for the highly-acclaimed alternative rock band Sonic Youth, Gordon has gained widespread renown as a visual artist, record producer, video director, fashion designer, and actress. She has worked with a wide range of collaborators including Ikue Mori, Lydia Lunch, Yoko Ono, Raymond Pettibon, Courtney Love, Chris Corsano, and Bill Nace as the electric guitar duo Body/Head, who last appeared at ISSUE in 2013. This year saw the release of a series of Gordon’s writings on art and music, Is It My Body? (Sternberg, 2014).
