China: For those in the dark, China is very, very old and multicultural! A clear example for African nations to study.

I would categorize castles as a fortified residence, predominantly for a feudal lord to control certain area of land adjacent to it, exclusively through military means.

This alone disqualifies virtually every Chinese castle, because of the lack of feudal lords.

Chinese castles can also be fortified residences, built against bandits by family clans.

Which is especially prevalent during times of turbulence, when central government were too busy fighting rebellions or invasions.

These castles are often utilitarian

No knights in shining armor or benevolent lords or damsels in distress.

Chinese castles are just fortified residences of well-off families that wants to be left alone.

So they are mostly small in scale.

Look at that speed 👇

Also obviously vastly helped by the fact they didn't spend a single cent on fighting wars abroad but instead spent it on improving their country, unlike others 😏pic.twitter.com/mbHvN46pEN
