… Somos Todos Creadores, Sin Saberlo.

ONCE UPON AN ARTIST. Chapter 1: HEAD from Marc Guardiola [ La Mafia ] on Vimeo.

Once Upon an Artist is a documentary series that narrates the experiences of the artists from a philosophical and poetic view. Each chapter is an interpretation of their work from a different approach. We use the tool of visual metaphor to redraw what our artists tell about their work. All during their work’s process.
In Chapter One, the sculptor Rubén Fuentes tells us how hard was to create a 1’5 meter sculpture made of compact quartz. We follow him throughout his inspirational journey

I became the executor of these two minute projects by people who were mainly non-designers and confirmed my suspicion: everyone, regardless his age and job, can come up with extraordinary, wild, new and at times brilliant inventions.

… Let me explain everything from the beginning:
back in 2009 I began pestering friends and random strangers. I would walk up to them with a pen and a sheet of paper asking that they immediately draw me a men’s bicycle, by heart. Soon I found out that when confronted with this odd request most people have a very hard time remembering exactly how a bike is made. Some did get close, some actually nailed it perfectly, but most ended up drawing something that was pretty far off from a regular men’s bicycle.
Little I knew this is actually a test that psychologists use to demonstrate how our brain sometimes tricks us into thinking we know something even though we don’t.

Marc Newson

Marc Newson on designing watches from Dezeen on Vimeo.

In this movie in our series filmed with Marc Newson in his London studio he tells us about the watches he's designed, including the first ones that he built himself in the late 1980s.

Flicking through a proof of his new book for publishers Taschen, Newson shows a 1:1 image of a model from 1986 that's as big as his fist, saying "I pre-dated the trend for large watches by about a decade."

Newson also talks about jewellery he's designed, the huge glass Atmos clocks powered by tiny changes in temperature and the hourglass full of ball-bearings that was his last product for the Ikepod watch brand he founded.

Jean-Louis Gassée on Marc Newson and the Apple Watch:

This is a fun read. In today’s Monday note, Jean-Louis Gassée explores the creation of and reaction to the Apple Watch. Most interesting to me was the discussion of the potential role that Apple’s newly hired designer Marc Newson, a longtime pal of Jony Ive, played in the design of the Apple Watch.

The Design Flaw That Almost Wiped Out An NYC Skyscraper

The Slate

This thing does not look sturdy. But it has to be sturdy. Otherwise they wouldn’t have built it this way.

Right?

The architect of Citicorp Center was Hugh Stubbins, but most of the credit for this building is given to its chief structural engineer, William LeMessurier.

I love good ( what engulfs me, physically and emotionally ) design and architecture.
Sadly i never liked descriptive geometry in highSchool, and my love for art came late.

David Adjaye

Cool Hunting Video: David Adjaye for Knoll from Cool Hunting on Vimeo.

Recently, CH spoke to architect and designer David Adjaye, a rising star whose award-winning firm is working on the National Museum of African American History and Culture for the Smithsonian in Washington, DC. A thoughtful and charming individual, Adjaye has a very clear vision of his relationship with structures and design. But this was challenged when he was given the opportunity to take a break from buildings and design a collection for the furniture brand Knoll. We spoke with Adjaye about this new experience, the difference in designing furniture and the purpose of a chair.
